they accept credit cards. i don't know about anything else, but they DEFINATELY take credit cards.

  3. I'm quite sure that a credit card is their preferred method of payment. Worked for me last year. Hmmmm....just read in the front of their old (current though) catalog, and it states that credit card orders are subject to a handling fee. Doesn't say how much though. I don't remember paying an extra fee for my last order. :Do No:

The do not take any form of debit card. Even the ones that have the mastercard logo, and are supposed to be able to be used anywhere mastercard is accepted. They told me that their bank said they can only accept those if the customer was there in person.
But normal credit cards work great!

I would like to add this as more of an FYI in regards to Debit cards. First I will say though, that TA does take "conventional" Visa, MC and Discover, but does not take any cards that are attached to checking accounts.

Based on articles in the Wall Street Journal, local papers and on television news programs about Debit cards, plus the info we have gotten from our bank and the inside scoop that Sherri T. (TA Performance) has from working at American Express here is the low down.

A Debit card is a direct link to your checking account and was originally intended to be a plastic re-usable check. It was also intended for point of sale use so a signature can be obtained. Visa and Mastercard issue the numbers but do not provide the security features that they do for credit cards. If someone obtains your card number the results would be the same as if you left a signed check on the side walk. Anyone can make purchases with your card and you will be out the entire amount. Visa and Mastercard will not back you up.

Though it may seem a hassle, TA is actually protecting you. If you have the $$ in your checking account, you are safer to use a conventional charge card then send the money to the card company or transfer the payment on line. This way you will still never pay interest and you will continue to improve your credit rating. If your card is used without your permissionl, Visa and Mastercard will hold you liable for no more than $50 of it. As another note the major retailers like Walmart are suing Visa because of issues with debit cards.

On a similar note you may be a little irritated by the "quiz" you get when you order from TA, but again it is protection for you. When we verify the information that you provide, we are ensuring that the card is being used legitimately. Of course for the 99% of us that are on the up and up we have to suffer because of the few bad apples. But I will say that with the verification process we catch a few fraudulent transactions per year. And unfortunately a few have gotten by as well.

    Thank You for your patrionage,
    Dave

  8. Dave, I sure don't recall any irritating quiz when I talked to you earlier this winter and ordered some stuff, via credit card. But like you stated, it is a small price to pay for the protection provided.

    Beware

    Dave is right, guys.

Debit cards are much less secure than credit cards! I will never use one! It is in the news fairly often - how people are unaware that debit cards DO NOT offer the same protection to the card holder as credit cards. Many times people will only find this out, but by then it's too late!
