I'm wondering if someone could post or pm some pictures of a 1965 Skylark bucket seat interior and odd looking center console. This would be for 4 speed and column shift cars.
Which console are you referring to? There were several used.... The automatics used the long console from 65-67. The 65-72 GS had a 3 speed and 4 speed consolette at the shifter, 64-65 Skylark had a different consolette. And there was the between-seat storage console.... the early 'ironing board' style, and then the later style 65-up.
This must be the early ironing board style. The car has factory buckets with a column shift automatic
Thank you I did not know these were called Ironing board consoles and there are some pics on this forum.
I believe 1965 may have been the last year for the ironing board style. Here's a pic of one of Mike's former cars:
Walt, Do you know if there was a code on the firewall dataplate for cars equipped with the consollete? John
My '64 has the ironing board console, buckets, and auto with column shift. I think from what info I can find, the ironing board console was only '64 and early '65. Not sure it was limited to Skylarks, possibly some of the big cars had them too.
Chris had put together a decoder up on the www.65gs site. It does show codes for the long auto console and the 3/4 speed consolette. But if your car was built in Baltimore (?) they barely put any codes on the cowl tag. http://65gs.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/1965-Buick-VIN-plate.pdf The decoder may not be 100% accurate, but it's the best info we've gotten so far.
My car is from Kansas City and the tag reads: 2B 4S 5. It's a 3 speed with no consolette so that checks out.
Then that confirms the ironing board console was available in the big cars. I think they stopped being available during the '65 model year.
Can confirm for big cars. I have a 65 with the ironing board, sold a 64 Wildcat with I B and column shift.
