Hello, new guy here. I'm in the market for a 1970 Buick GS455 or Stage 1. I've always liked the GS455, but have never sat in one, so my first question is, how is the headroom and legroom? I will definitely sit in one before moving forward. Below are just two examples of what I'm finding online for sale that interest me, just wonder about the prices. Do they seem high? I've had bad luck in the past when trying to purchase classic vehicles, just trying to get an idea of current value, NADA has average for Stage 1 at $43,000. Appreciate any advise or information you might have. Thanks. The first one is a 1970 Buick GS455 Stage 1 on Ebay, they are asking $49,000 http://www.ebay.com/itm/121300636937?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 This one is a 1970 Buick GS455 restored to Stage 1 spec in Texas, they are asking $52,500 http://www.classicalgasmotors.com/cars/1359/1359.htm#
Looking at both , Id certainly go with the REAL stage 1 car.It looks like the nicer car and for less money. As far as head and leg room you'd have to sit in one. I'm 5"11 and i fit pretty well.
I'm 6'4" and I fit fine. I would like the seat to go a little further back than it does and passengers have on one or two occasions said that I look a bit cramped behind the wheel, but I have comfortably driven mine for 4 hours each way to make it to a car show and back. no problem with head room, my usual complaint in smaller cars. I too would recommend a genuine Stage 1 over any sort of "tribute".
Pass on the black car. You will be disappointed with the body work once you see it in person. It was a no sale at a local auction recently. It is way overpriced.
Both cars are overpriced. I would think that $50k would probably buy you a concours quality automatic stage 1 car, or real close to it. 4 speed would cost you more, unless you get lucky. For a nice GS455, cut that price in half. I know of a 1 owner 70 GS here in WA (yes, 1 owner) that is nice driver quality, in the mid twenties.
Located in San Antonio, TX. Depending on price, looking for one that is at least a solid driver, doesn't need any body/metal work. For the right price, I'd like turn key. Thanks for all the feedback, much appreciated. It's frustrating when everything you look at appears to be overpriced.
Send me an email at candjpollak@hotmail.com and I can forward you pics at info on the GS455 I was referring to.
... if you can get Chris (CJP69) to find you a car, you are MILES ahead of the game. Chris knows EVERY Buick that is for sale .. which are "gold" and which aren't. Chris has found more cars for more people than can be counted .. .. and he does it all for a root beer float. Thats all he asks for o No:
Chris is the man when you're looking for a car. He helped me a lot when I was looking though I ended up with buying a car before it was listed for sale (so he could not have known about it... I think..LOL)
Just browsing the net I found a few.. I know NOTHING ABOUT these cars so if someone does I hope they speak up. http://www.cars-on-line.com/71737.html http://www.cars-on-line.com/67670.html http://www.cars-on-line.com/51958.html http://www.cars-on-line.com/45614.html
Thanks for the info, I've seen the below listings. http://www.cars-on-line.com/71737.html - I've wondered about this one myself, pics look good and it's a good price. http://www.cars-on-line.com/67670.html - This one has a bench seat, would prefer bucket seats. http://www.cars-on-line.com/51958.html - This one has been listed for a LONG time. I like a GSX as much as the next person, but I think the yellow is a bit much and a little too flashy for me. http://www.cars-on-line.com/45614.html - This one has also been listed for a LONG time, gotta wonder what's the issue. It's only a few hours from me, might be worth checking out.
X 2! Chris seems to love the challenge of uniting great Buicks with great new owners. :beer :beer He even talked me out of a car which I really, really liked with this axiom: "Better to regret not buying a car, than regret actually buying one that's not as advertised." See above comments regarding the black car.
Chris is the millionaire match maker...except not for millionaires...just for Buicks, Chris introduced me to my car, and it was love at first sight! Good Luck.
