Soon I will be putting a th-350 from a '70 Skylark into my '67 Skylark (currently the 2-speed), and I have a few questions. What do I need to do about the shifter since I'm going from a 2-speed to a 3-speed? Will I need different linkage? Any other help about things I didn't mention regarding the swap will also be much appreciated. Thanks!
When I swapped my 300/ ST-300 for a 455/TH-400 in my old 64 Skylark I initially used the column shifter. The gear indicater didn't line up (obviously) but there was enough swing in the column to get all 3 gears plus reverse and park.
Thanks. That was kinda what I was thinking, but I've never done something like this so I wanted to be certain.
Same here, we have a t-400 in a 66 lark that originally had the t-300. Still using the colunm shifter, park is still park, low is still low, woks pretty goood actually. Jim Burek
Go for it! Linkage for the trans. bolts right up. I used a SP 400, Infact it was one of Jim's. I just had to get the TH 400 yoke and have the driveshaft shortened and balanced. And move the crossmember back to the rear set of holes in the frame. If you use a TH 350 it is a true boltin, in place of the ST300.
Will the linkage from the 2-speed work with the th350? Will I need to buy anything else to make the swap work?
Yes. it will work. We have another 66 GS down here right now with a 350/ 350 in it with the factory 2 speed column shifter. Park is still park, drive is drive, reverse is reverse. The shifter gets all the way to low gear. Jim Burek
I realize that in my first post, I forgot to mention that I have a console shift. Does that change the whole situation?
I used the column shifter also. I see what you mean with the console shifter the trans. has that arm on it. I never used a 67 center console with a three speed before. The two center consoles I have are for the st300. Not shure if it would work. Someone must have tried this before.
