My 76 Skylark ran 10.57 last month at the MidWest Challenge. :bglasses: How are the rest of you pump gas racers doing?
Carl, As you know I went 10.41 also at Morrocco, in my Regal, I'll get back with you so we can trade "build up information" after we return from Cecil, hopefully my time will drop after this weekend. :TU:
pump gas buicks High John, Yes of course I knew about you car. :beer It is a real bumper dragger. Hope my car never goes skyward like yours.....might mess up my under-roos! Email me direct and I'll be glad to tell you about my combination when you get back. Gary, had no idea that Painkiller ran on pump gas. :TU: Is that the iron head stage 2 motor? How much does it weigh? OK who else out there has a pump gas story to tell?
Carl,No we put al. stage 2's on it.The iron stage 2's are on "Scat". He's pushing 3200# w/driver. Actually we have the wrong cam combo in it,its really designed for a 11to 12 :1 motor, over the winter we're going to freshen it up,has a couple hundred passes right now, swap cams and see what happens. gary
10's on pump gas Eric, my engine is 470 cubic inches. +0.038 over bore and +0.055 stroke (offset ground stock crank). Don't know about John and Gary, but I believe Gary runs a 462 or a 468.
10 second Buicks Jeeze, ou: I gotta lighten that 76 up some. 3671 is my raceweight! Thanks for the info, Gary. My compression ratio is 10.3:1.
The engine in Painekiller is a 462, my old shortblock. Engine went 10.02 @ 142 MPH in my old regal at 3850 lbs. race weight on pump gas. This was on 250 HP nitrous with 116 octane nitrous fuel in the enrichment circuit. That would be an 8 second ride in my current race car at 3070lbs. and a decent suspension with big tires. My old iron head engine in the regal went 10.55 @ 130 on street slicks with pump gas and drove to and from the track. This was also my daily driver car at 3850 lbs. and on street tires with only 175 HP nitrous. Same engine went 10.95 @ 125 with a 2.75 gear and small drag radials on the regal with 150 HP nitrous. Both these old engines went to new homes and ran for many more years without trouble.
Dennis Thanks for chiming in,sorry to hear you can't make Cecil. But priorites are priorities.I'll try to do well for the mid-westerners.We'll get together in the spring. By the way, congrats on your US 41 victory.Wish I could've made it. gary
Thanks Gary. I am sure you will do fine in Cecil. My luck has to be just about out for this year by now anyway. Good luck and drive safe.
Hey Dennis Luck I would say if you won one meet when most times you don't (like myself) But with all the times you cleaned up proves that hard work and time spent at the track pays off. I would call it skill and a job well done. Yeah luck sometimes plays into the mix, but I would say with you it's been more than luck. Congrats on you good year of racing! Hope to see you at Norwalk in the Spring of '05 :TU:
10 Second Buicks Ronnie, my car is 3671 with me and my race gear in it and 14 gallons of BP 92 octane in the fuel cell. Dennis...........Yeah what Rick M. said. I consider you "Semi-Pro" like a lot of the really fast guys out there. :TU:
Fast?? 5.92 at 117 1/8 mi pump gas 3315 weight 180 hp shot, 464 cu in. I drove it to the track on pump gas, so I figure why not before I changed over to race gas so I could run the second stage without worries.
No stroker in my regal, standard stroke, .030 over bore, solid cam, iron heads, but I do have lightier wieght in my favor, the regal goes 3,181lbs. with me in it, I hope to have a "real engine" in it next year, along with both the car & myself cutting a few lbs. This engine has no girdle, has about 300 passes, since being "freshed-up", was built by me in my garage, & is so "stock" that the local chevy racers just walk away shaking thier heads. Shane, no protection for the rear bumper this weekend, but I will attempt to "tame-it down a little" for next year, I figured I'd come out here and get some pointers from Doug "the wheelie king" Hecker! :error:
Weight Reduction OK guys, did I just pick the wrong body style?!?!?! How are you guys getting your cars so light? o No:
10's on pump gas Well i will have to say that im very impressed with those numbers, ill have to get some combo's from you guys when i redo me 455 in my 66 skylark its an 10.1 engine also but dont have the head work you guys have.. :TU: :TU:
