    Jody,

right, thats the blue 71 Mark was driving. and giving the dimmer switch a workout. I was referring to the gold L88 Larry was driving.

Im almost sure somebody has to have run a factory over the counter upgraded stage 1 to stage 2 headed buick into the 12's. JW just dynoed a factory iron Buick stage 2, with everything factory from buick, zero upgrades, I think it was just touching on 500 hp and 550 TQ after it was fully dialed in. Now that in a 70 GS with a four speed I could see running low twelves to high elevens, easily. But I guess it's pretty unlikely that anybody even ran one back then and recorded the times, let alone a survivor now.

The stage 2 ran low 11s could have runs in the 10s but they didn't pushed its limits.
Didn't you read the Muscle car magazine of november?

If you're talking about THIS stage II, it ain't quite "stock"...ported heads and headers, for starters. Still good numbers, though...

My first time @ Stanton, our Y-Camaro went a 13.20 @ 103(?), on a 24k mile original car (except for the repaint). Funny thing was, I figured that since I was bringing a 427 Camaro that I'd show up show folks how to *really* skin the cat, but I promptly got "humbled" that weekend...and man oh man, was it windy and cold that year (1999)! My wife & 3 month old son spent the whole weekend sitting in the truck...I still feel bad about that...

So we have one L72 car @ 13.20. One 69 hemi plymouth @ 13.30. And two 71 LS6 cars @ 13 teens & 20s, neither one in completely unmolested stock condition. And to my knowledge, the gold L88 was a total restoration. I'm a little surprised that nobody has pulled off a "survivor car" 12 sec. pass. Surprised too, that no mopar sixpacks or super duty pontiacs were not close to the mark.

Gary Places' 1969 blue Chevelle, SS 396/375 runs right at 12.9's to 13.0's and I believe it to be pretty untouched. It's got around 35,000 miles on it. Cover car for MCE December '07 or there abouts I think.:Do No:

Beautiful car and he runs it HARD!

Thanks Tom, I forgot all about Gary's car. Looks like you got a first hand demonstration, and a copy of the time slip to boot!

    Rob,
your right 1999 was a very windy cold year my first year.
I took a 1968 8,000 mile rs/ss camaro 396/375 hp 4 speed original paint, original exhaust and the engine has never been out of the car, oh yea my dad told me racing that camaro was the dumbest thing he ever heard that was just plain stupid, race an untouched all original car, I think he yelled at me for an hour, like he never beat on the ones he owned.:puzzled: :Do No:

The old RED RIPPER'S best run was 13.6 @ 106mph.

Buick stage 2 parts are over the counter only parts never installed from the factory. Thus not being legal to run in factory racing and pure stock.

Kinda like Z28 camaro's having headers delivered in the truck -even though the factory made them(actually Kustom did) they didn't leave installed by papa GM, so no go.:af: bummer:Do No:

Terry, I am 43 yrs old and my Dad still yells at me if he hears about any of my FAST trips. At first I tried to disquise them as Car Show trips. He wised up quick though.. The magazine coverage busted me pretty good too.

No matter how old you are they still get to yell at you.

Steve, I actually got two time slips since Gary and I qualified against each other at Martin last summer. He showed me his tail lights both times! He's a tough guy to race against. He lives 7 miles from me and I've known him over 25 years now. It was his suggestion to race my silver '64 Impala at Stanton many years ago and that got me hooked! It's all his fault!

I remember when he bought that Chevelle something like 20 years ago. It still had all the original hoses, clamps, belts, exhaust system, everything but tires were all factory original parts. He got tired of showing it at car shows and decided to race it. How's that for a gutsy move? :Dou: He did go through it to replace belts and hoses etc for racing. Don't know if you still consider it a survivor but he has shown it at the Bloomington Gold Survivor show and it qualifies for them.

Big Dog you must know that feeling with your Camaro.

If its the car I think you mean.It was a very nice restored car .I first saw in at NMCA races in the late 80's early 90's first owned by Don Cossey in top stock and then sold it to Stan who raced it in pure stock. He sold it to the present owner Jeff Petterson .
