Hey guys ,Steve here . The radiator in my 72' is a 3 core and is "Tango Uniform " . I've been looking at Modine's etc. . Recently I saw some radiators I believe in Summit . They're aluminum with 2 rows of 1" rectangular cores (I don't know how thick) . They're about 275.00 I've been qouted $235.00 @ NAPA for a H/D 4 core , ( I know I can get better prices) . Has anyone here seen these are they good ? Thanks, Steve
I have a four row Modine and it's a good radiator. I wouldn't want to comment on the NAPA radiator before I knew the manufacturer, but if it's Modine, yes you can get a better price, and they are good units. Aluminum is really the way to go though from a technical standpoint- the aluminum is simply a better way to cool.
I have a Be-Cool aluminum in my GS455 (bored .030'' over) with working A/C. No problems in 100 degree ambient weather with the A/C on, local or highway.
This worked out perfectly for me, and it's a little cheaper. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2479071749 Frank
I have a Ron Davis Racing Radiator part number 1-16CL6877 (description -68-77 Chevelle type radiator) with no tranny cooler. It is 2 core aluminum and keeps the temp down to one or two hatch marks on my guage when rolling on a 100 degree day. This is a totally drop in radiator - absolutely NO fabrication. Cost $331 with shipping in May '03. And the tanks are fabulous looking - I still drool on them. The phone number is 623-877-5000. They're also on the web.
my radiator is an aluminum 2 core from summit for 175$ works fine on my 464 11-1 motor just drove it in 95 degree heat and it was also very humid car never went over 190 ..mike ps i also have a single electric fan ...
I run the aluminum rad out of an 89 Park Ave and it works great and half the wight of the Modine. Runs 170 with a 160 stat.
The only car I know of you having is the Skyhawk so do you mean you run it in there? If so then thats amazing.
if you are close to stock, and no A/C a 3 row is OK, i run a 4 row on my 500 H/P 462 with no A/C, it will stay under 210 at idle on a 100 degree day, the 3 row was not enough when it pushed 90 degrees, i would go with the aluminum if you have over 450 H/P, A/C, and drive in hot conditions, and dont mind the non stock look.
No not in the Skyhawk. I mean in any other GS. My son's old clone GSX has one in it from 1995 and that can runs 10':60s thru the exhaust and can drive it around all day! His girlfriends 71 Skylark with a 455 and big cam has the same one in it and runs cool. I put them in any GS that needs a radiator!
This is the way I'm tending to lean....... It's a Non A/C 455 stock , but , we get up to 105+ here :af: mostly road and some in town . No problem with the construction? Can you post a pic ? I'm not going High Dollar with this resto mod so I can't justify $300-500 . Steve
I also have this radiator and it is great. I bought it through TA Performance. I get people telling me how nice it looks at every show. Mike
Hi guys I just ordered a 4 core radiator for my '71 GS Riv from U.S. Radiator it is supposed to be a correct fit with a tranny cooler for just over $140. I hope it works well. It should arrive tomorrow....Soren
Recieved my radiator from U.S.Radiators; I asked for a 4 core and the pin heads sent a 3 core. Now I have to send it back and will cost an extra $30. I wish they would have got it right the first time. By the way the radiators are made in Mexico, I'm not too pleased....Soren
