Trying to install the factory AM/FM radio and there’s supposed to be a ground connection made to that. Does anyone know how that’s supposed to be connected?
I would think through the radio body? There may be a ground in the factory plug, can't remember. Is it not working?
It grounds through the case. Only three wires going to the radio. Yellow is power, and the two green wires going to the front speaker. Harness is the same am to am/fm
Thanks. I wanted to double check because I got the notes from the guy who restored my radio saying it needs to be grounded.
If memory serves, there is an L shaped support bracket that does double duty as a support and ground? You can see it in this picture (lower left side)
Ohh so that bracket should already be the ground because it screws at the bottom of the radio case. I kept thinking where to run a ground wire. Got it now!
If you look at the 3 pin connector on the back of the radio, the one pin is actually connected to the case of the radio for ground. I just can't recall if the wire harness from the dash board has two or three wires into it. Either way, case of the radio is ground and will contact thru the L bracket as Larry stated. Oh wait, the two wires go to the speaker (ground and middle). The third is the power plug in (had to look at Larry's schematic above)
The diagram is showing something else. 2 at the bottom metal tabs and 2 into the plastic plate. Are you sure?
Those studs go through the two tabs that are part of the metal dash. That as well as the metal support bracket should give plenty of grounding. The ones in the picture look to have been replacement ones. I've parted cars where an aftermarket radio was put in and the cut those tabs off.
On my car, those tabs were just bent down. I was able to straighten them so they were usable, but yeah, it doesn't surprise me that someone would cut them off.
