Too bad it's not a Buick with a 350, but still very rare I suspect. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170429137894&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT
No way in heck can you find one and make it that nice, especially with a factory manual shift, for what they are asking. Man that car is cool.
There was a local guy with a dark green one here in STL a while back. Neat car but not a powerhouse. Maybe a little wrenching and a 455/tremec
I really like those mid to late seventies A-bodies and this car is obviously in fantastic shape but the seller may be a little optimistic about the car's likelihood of appreciating in value. The person that buys this car should buy it to satisfy a personal desire to own it, not as an investment opportunity. No matter how long you waited, cars like this one will likely never be worth more than $9-$10,000. That being said, I will shortly be ready to continue the restoration of my 1970 Monte Carlo which will similarly never be worth as much as I will have in it when it's done. The things we do for love.
It sold at the Mecum Indy Spring Classic this past spring for $10,000...he's now taking a sizable loss on it just to get rid of it. http://www.mecum.com/auctions/lot_detail.cfm?LOT_ID=SC0509-78922&entryRow=1058 Lot T187 1977 Oldsmobile Cutlass 2 Door 260 CI, 5-Speed Manual The Jack Safro Estate Collection (More Cars )Sold Price: $10,000 Dana Mecum's Original Spring Classic Auction - 22nd Year May 13-17, 2009
There was one of these for sale right here in town this past summer, a 442 with all the original decals, 5 speed. Car had all original paint. I liked it a lot but not in the market. Not sure if it had a V8 or not. I think you could even get a V6 in them in 77 couldn't you.
A 70 Monte will still be worth more than a mid seventies A body. Can Ams, GTOs, Lagunas, nobody wants them. I think they're cool because they are rare and you can still replace the power plant.
I had and sold a 77 442 5 speed with only 21k miles. It had a 260 V8 with documentation. It was a fun car but not much zip. Mid teens car.
They have that too! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Buic...ewItemQQptZUS_Cars_Trucks?hash=item5d279f896c My grandmother had a 75 Cutlass with the 260, and it couldnt make it up her driveway if you stopped in the middle. Truly gutless!
20+ years ago I had a 78 Regal with a v-6 and a 4-spd. Was called a fuel miser or something like that, had some aluminum parts on it even. Wish i'd kept it, never seen another. Gutless to no end, but still fun to drive. Would have been a great car to have dropped a SBB in. They made some wacky stuff in the 70's.
Very cool and only 5 minutes from my office. Looks like a real rare survivor. It's a shame that some moron attacked it with a spray bomb and did a half assed aerosol overhaul.
This seller used to be luvdg on ebay, sold lots of cars. Don't know why or when he changed IDs. But always has nice ones with pretty good feedback.
It's back on ebay with price lowered quite a bit. Called and Marv hinted it could be had for $8k. So Donny, any specific reason for your comment, after all he is a used car salesman. I'm tempted, maybe more for a trip to Florida! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170434375498&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT
Mike, How do you know he's taking a big loss? Have you seen these sell for a lot more that 8K? Not questioning that it isn't possibly just curious, cause I've never seen any A bodies of the 75-77 years bring all that much money no matter what they are. Hurst Olds included. You might get one here and there that is really special that tickles the pocketbook but for the most part these years are normally anemic pricewise, not good investments.
Had a '78 Cutlass with this motor/trans combo, and I loved it. It was no rocket, but don't remember it being that slow either(though it was much smaller than this boat). Wish I still had it, if nothing else, it was a conversation starter at the cruise nights.
