ok so i looked over the buickperformance guide on finding posi units.

my 8.5 has 2.56 gears in them...and when i get my 200-4r tranny these gears will just not work too well...though it would be funny to be running down the highway at idle :)

what i'm asking is i've heard that aside from the full size cars from the late 70's early 80's that there are some trucks and suv's from the same time that have gears and posi unit's too...but with a little lower gear than 3.23....i'm looking for 3.42, 3.64, 3.73 type gears...

thanks for any leads on these...

Personally I find my lower gear sets from P/U trucks and vans.(3.42-3.73) The POSI's you speak of aren't any good to you being that they will be GM Gov-Locks and are generally junk. Besides the side gears are 30 spline whereas your cars are 28 splines. You'll want a 2.73 and up carrier as well.

Get the posi carrier I have listed in the article, 410408 and get the gear set from any 80-90 Suburban or full size Blazer. They typically have 3.42-4.10 gears.

I hear about the Gov-locks all the time, but how can you tell which is which? Pics or other info for the uneducated out here in cyberspace, please! :Do No:

2.56 gears!? Wow! With a 200-4R, that gives you a theoretical top speed of 261 MPH at 5500 rpm's!!! :3gears:

    I have 3.73 gears on a 28" tire, and with my 200-4R I run about 2200 rpm's at 70 mph. It's great.

Are you running your 200 behind a 455 if so how many miles so far? I have a 53 Roadmaster with a 455 and I'm thinking about swapping out the 400 for a 200R4.
Or maybe a Gear Vender but they are spendy. Thanks Bob H.
