Hi there, new poster, I just recently picked up a 70 skylark and am pretty brand new to the whole restoration project deal, but figured I'd get right down to it :)

Currently on the car, the brake lights and running lights dont work. I replaced all the fuses to no avail, then found out that the sockets for the bulbs in the rear are almost entirely rusted out.

I'm thinking of replacing them this weekend and drilling a hole in the bottom of the metal bracket that holds them, and was wondering if anyone could recommend what socket I should use? Will just any old one from canadian tire do?

Just went thru the same job when I installed my new bumper. Found Carquest had a better selection. CTC doesn't seem to stock too much in this area. Still had to order the right back-up sockets in. There are a few with different diameters. you need the right size to lock into the housing.
If you can take one of each with you it will help. Wire colours will likely be different but reconnect in same order as you cut.

Alrighty, so I managed to get the brake lights working just by doing some checking under the dash and making sure everything was plugged in properly, and also replacing all the bulbs in the rear sockets.

Ran into an interesting issue though. If I have the headlights on, directionals and brakelights dont work. If I have the brake lights on, left directional flashes both brake lights, right directional flashes both brake lights but very slowly.

Has anyone seen this before? Is it something that Id have to replace the directional signa switch assembly in the steering column? Ive checked all the harmonica connections and they seem solid.

That is very strange. I'd check for a short. First I'd make sure the correct bulbs are in there. Some can be very similar.
