Remind me again, how tight and do you stake them in, Loctite, etc.?

Been almost 15 years since I built my last bare block...I’ve forgotten about 25 years of Buick knowledge that I had in my old brain at that time. Such a shame.

    TrunkMonkey Totally bananas

It does not take much to stake them, the main thing is good sealant and tight fit.

But, I tap them NPT and use plugs as it is simple enough to do and almost never going to have one leak or pop out.

Aren't the rear plugs threaded on a 455 also?

The rear are the front aren't,...but they are generally really tight for some reason,..I would put some green or red loc tite on them and probably put them at 30ftlb or so

Being a standard pipe thread and not a straight pipe thread they will only go so far

Thanks guys. Forget they must be NPT in the rear.

Front will get the cup plugs, staked (I remember those when I was 15 years old...first 455 and first time I staked any thing...you never forget your first time, lol).
