    desertrat_1960 DIE !!! RICE BOY...ZERRP!

Hey folks last week I posted about finding a Posi from a Late 70's early 80's
Chevy 1500 P.U. for $ 50.00 . Someone here mentioned to stay away from "GovLoks" . How can I tell if this is a GovLok . Any external or internal clues ?

    GStage1 Always looking for parts!

Look at the center section and see if you see this:

If so, you have it and it is worthless.

I do not believe govlock was used before 1981. It is worthless in your Buick, but I believe they sell for more than $50 on ebay.

    Posi

    Hi All,

The Posi, that was in my 84 Blazer. I believe Eaton made them as that is where we ordered the parts. This unit only works going forward, the forward rotation locks in place. It actually flips itself over into a groove and then locks up the spiders. Will not lock up in reverse, as it flips the wrong way.

The strength of the unit is also at ????. To many small parts to explode, trust me on this. There is a reason it is only 50.00 bucks.

This may help or not, but it looks to be the same POS, I rebuilt 2 times then went to a 12 bolt...

    Good Luck

    ???????????s

    Steve,

Sorry to imply that it is not worth the 50.00 spot. Even if they were free it is still a POS. Buy all the 8.5 posi and 12 bolt stuff they have that is a great deal for a USED unit, and pull it yourself 50.00 is a buy..

    Posi Donors

I plan on taking a few tools to the yard soon . If that looks like a GovLok it'll be staying right where it is ! Great thing is the accessability . No bed just the frame rails . I can walk right up to it and yank the cover in a couple of minutes . There are several possibilities out there .
I wish I had the clams for a new unit . With the way things are now it will be a long time before I reach that kind of money for a Posi . I've still got to get up the cash for the body/ paint . Interior /suspension is mostly done .
Need shocks , bars , brakes . And NEW rubber .
    Steve

Thanks to all for the heads up on GovLoks . Dang expensive fishing weights !!!
