Looking for some rear speaker grills for my 71. Anyone have any pics of what the originals look like ? Trying to get my rear deck self back to stock. Thx, John.

there were no actual speaker grills. the bookshelf has small holes about the speaker location and thus no grills required.

So if I understand this correctly there was just a pattern of small holes cut above the speakers for sound ?

Correct -a series of small holes drilled about the bookshelf.

You will need to buy the correct rear package tray the deluxe version had these pre-drilled.

Since I'm also looking for a rear deluxe package tray, does the chevelle version fit in our Buick's?
Where would be the cheapest to buy from NPD?

The Chevelle rear filler does NOT match to the Skylark/GS rear filler. 100% positive. The speaker holes do not even have the same spacing apart. GS is curved different at the rear than the Chevy. Lots of trimming, and your speakers STILL don't line up:mad:.

Prices are about the same, but shipping had my jaw on the floor.

Check TPP. Shipping will get you anywhere since it's oversized and cannot bend it. I got mine from them and had to trim the back side, for the curve. Yes you want the deluxe package tray as there is mesh over the swiss cheese holes for speaker sound.

I bought one with the holes in it from tpp. Very nice looking piece actually. Haven't installed it yet though. I could maybe dig it out and snap some pics tonight if you guys need me too

Last one I bought from the PP, must have been Chevelle, because I had to trim the rear. As I remember the speaker was over the hole, and the rear defogger was correct.

I used my old package tray as a template for the replacement unit. Saves a lot of time, swearing and trimming.

Mine has bare metal, since it had a vinyl top that rotted out the tulip panel, and the cardboard to boot. I'd like to be sure that what I buy fits. It is times like this that I really miss my dad, because he could recreate a 100 point interior in a Pierce-Arrow from scratch, and could even bend convertible roof bows for Rolls Royces. He would lower himself to work on post-WWII cars for family, but that was all. Every once in a while I meet someone who has a trunk on their Model A that was obviously built by him. They are distinctive, and very correct. They are all probably toast by now; he checked out in 1988. :(

Sorry gents, after clearing the snow from the driveway, I went in to thaw and never made it out to the shop to dig out the package tray and snap a few pics. I'll try again tonight when I get home (hopefully no more snow to clear!!)

They all need to be trimmed. I got one from Cars and had to trim it. No way around it.
