My question is about rear springs for drag racing. Setup is mild 462 backed by a 200-4r and 3.73 posi in a 72 GS. We are going to add T/A no hop bars. The car is sagging in the right rear, so we are going to also replace the rear springs. Should we install any spring other than stock GS springs to get more bite?

Just to close the loop & share a pic with the V8 gang. We're going with Moroso drag springs and T/A no hop bars. All goes well it will be together pretty soon & ready to rock. New rubber too, with set of sticky slicks.

    Thanks Skip!:beer

Should have this bad boy out at Carlsbad Saturday morning. See what it will do at sea level.

Interesting that no one seems to care about springs. I would have thought springs, shocks, air bags, hop bars, etc. are important. Live and learn, eh?

Get some mid 12s with that set up and we're talking. It should be a highway sleeper with the regular back tires on.

    I want to clarify 'mild'.

It was built that way so when put it in my 71GS convertible it wouldn't need roll bar. Things changed and now it's in the 72GS hardtop.

So instead, we're engineering the hardtop's drive train to hook behind that.

Did not have time to install springs and bars this week so I thought a little base line test was in order today.
Changes to the 72GS 455 since LV.
8" wide wheels in back vs 7"
20# right air bag, 5 in the left
    sway bar unhooked.
stock air cleaner with top flipped...but somebody took my K&N so paper filter from ???? but didn't look new.
    Shiftworks shifter mechanism.

Somewhere around 900' O.F. gets all excited cause he's pulling this Frogtang GT and shifts into......O.D.!!!!!, goes "Oh My" (or somethin). Revs drop to something like 2k, nose drops and it's pullin like a snail. Quickly realizing he is in error, O.F. hauls back to 3rd, never lifting.

Still a best for this car. Back to staging lanes, pronto!
Noticed that other cars were picking up crap on their slicks and mine were clean. Hmmmm. More burnout! My turn again. Turn rear tires till smoke is rolling by my window, let off to stage and blew the alternator fan belt off!!! Very noisy as it wrapped around the fan at about 5,000 rpm! Pulled over, took rest of belt off and drove back to the shop. Stay tuned. This is not over.
