i have an 8.5 drum to drum rear originally in a 71 Olds that now has an Auburn Pro Series Diff.,Richmond 3:42 Gears, all new bearings, seals, and I believe wheel studs.the unit has been in my car for approx.7500 miles. I would like to find a fair value for this piece as i want to re install my original 8.2.i have approx.$1000.00 invested

As long as it doesn't make noise or leak, and the posi works good, I would say $800-1200 would be the range.

Desireable gear ratio and housing, and real A body ones are getting harder to find every day.

Boy if this would have been an 8.5, 3.73 with Moser axles....I would have traded in a heart beat... :laugh:I am at a smilar crossroads. I have a correct coded 70 8.2, 3.42 stock good rear end and am looking for the one I described above. I want a drag rear and will hate killing the 8.2..

Bignasty, is that 8.2 a posi rear end? Are you looking to sell it... or just trade or neither?

I would trade even up for an 8.5 3.73 posi rear preferrably with aftermarket axles. I have had a couple offers that I could sell it and build my own as described. Just thought someone may already have what I need laying around. This is out of a 70 GS. An 8.2 posi.

Don't those 8.5" rears grow on trees in Minne-snow-ta?????
Oooooops, almost forgot....winter there already :Dou:

Hard to walk through the deep snow to find the 8.5" rears buried in da snow..........

Come on JW...sing it with me......tiny bubbles......in da wine..........

Phew.......got to get some rest....gonna be 90 again here tomorrow....have to work on my tan!

    Dan,
Why not stick with the 8.5"? Are you going to show in the concours class???? If you want to make it look like an 8.2" just grind the "ears" off at the 5 and 7 o'clock positions....only a true expert like JW will be able to id it as an 8.5"
