I would like to buy a rebuild 800cfm Quadrajet for my '72 Riviera. What is/are the best vendor(s) for these carbs? I found one on the internet, http://www.carburetion.com/Rebuilt/rebuildbynumber.asp anyone familiar with them? They offer rebuild Q-jets for $185 (with core) sounds a bit cheap (bad?? o No: ) to me, because a rebuild Q-jet at Summit goes for $350. I don't know what to do... :ball: Where do you guys get your carbs from? Thanks in advance, Bram van Keulen (The Netherlands)
Are you looking to buy one outright, or get yours rebuilt? Many here (including myself) have had success with sending our carbs to John Osborne to be 'performance' rebuilt. Norm Dhile is another well known Buick carb guy. Both, I'm pretty sure, ask for your current carb to rebuild. But the main question again, is are you looking to get your rebuilt or just buy one already done?
As between those two if you are interested in looks I would select Dihle as his are painted and almost look plated ( a non original color) whereas John's also run good but are not much to look at. Please no flames as I have used both of them.
I'm looking for one that is already done. Does Dhile and Osborne have a internetsite? What is a reasonable price for a rebuild carb? Thanks again, Bram
An assembly line, over-the-counter, rebuilt carb from a non-specialty rebuilder should be $150-$175. You will get a carb they have previously rebuilt. They will charge you an additional $20-$50 if you do not have a core carb to exchange. The performance folks will rebuild your carb for $200-$300. If you do not have a carb to start with they MAY have one to sell you, for additional $.
I've delt with recarbco.com a few times. Have had virtually no problems. They promise bolt on without adjustments and it works. You can make the final idle adjustments etc. I believe their charge is something like 174 bucks, plus core, plus shipping.
