Hello guys, Thanks for all the resources of this list!

I have recently rebuilt a Buick 350v8 engine last summer and experiencing some problems that have'nt cured itself!

I have a 1970 Kaiser Jeep Gladiator P/U that came stock with the Buick 350v8 engine, Rochester 2 bbl. carb., T-18 4-speed transmission, 4.10:1 gears.

I rebuilt the engine with 9:1 pistons, stock heads, improved Oil pump modification, dual timing chain, and used the TA Performance RV12 Camshaft.

I'm getting less than 10 mpg on the highway, less in the city.

The engine hasn't been very responsive at low idle, but starts to breath better at highway speeds, my timing is not very good at
6-8 degrees, I have to use mid-grade gas to stop pinging.

My main question: Should I change the camshaft again to a more stock camshaft to improve mileage and driveability?

Does the RV12 camshaft require a 4 bbl carb to work better?

Should I try to get my engine degree'd and figure the best setup?

Should I get the 2 degree increment crankshaft timing gear to time the engine?

The RV12 camshaft spec sheet says to get the recommended spring PN 1436, the catalog said nothing required, What should I do?

I haven't degree'd a camshaft before, the spec sheet says:
Degree Intake "Lobe to 106 degrees for 4 degree advance"

Is that what I should set my timing up to? Get that timing gear?

I hope I can get this figured out without too much problem!
I have a need to go 4-wheeling with this truck!

Also, I have are hard hot starting prob's!

    Thanks, Mac

Good question, I think some additional facts could help sort this out. What exhaust are you running? What type of air cleaner do you have? Do you have "pinging"? when? Describe your hot start problem. Just a hunch-I bet you've got a stock distributor-no advance re-curve? Also, have you checked your vacuum advance unit?

    hey mac

lots of threads here and in the 455 section about the benefits of degreeing the cam when putting in an aftermarket cam. just taking the numbers at face value and lining things up causes major problems and very poor running motors

bet you;d have a pretty good running motor once you degree it
