Recommend a torque wrench please. I have a summit racing coupon and need a torque wrench. Any recommendations? I want a socket drive. Do I want Click Digital? Here is a link to Summit: http://www.summitracing.com/search/p...rder=Ascending
I didn't bother to look at Summit Racing. I bought my current 1/2" drive torque wrench at Sears, as the last one grew legs. I was pretty annoyed that I was going to end up with something made in chinee, but it turned out to have been made in Indiana. I was quite pleased. Works great.
Harbor Freight had 1/2 click type on sale for $9.99, regularly 29.99. They said accuracy +/- 3%. Good enough for anything I do, so I bought and very pleased so far.
Personally I would never trust a 30 dollar one. I have N SK. And have used it for years now. Built 2 engine with it in which both still run like the day they were built. Never go cheap on such an important tool imo.
I would go with a split beam wrench. They are made by precision instruments. To those in the know they are the most accurate, and stay calibrated the longest. The torque measuring part of the wrench isn't loaded until you pull on it, so it stays calibrated for a very long time. List through Mac tools is about 300. It's worth the investment. I've got one in stock
This is what I purchased and have had -0- problems with it. http://www.toolsource.com/precision...m-click-type-torque-wrench-ftlb-p-104429.html The last two Craftsman clickers I bought stopped working in a year or two and went directly to the garbage, never again.
Definitely don't skimp on this tool. This is one time I'd stay away from Harbor Freight. A bad torque wrench will cause untold problems with an assembled engine. That said, I prefer a good clicker-style. I have a Craftsman and have never had a problem.
One of the mags did a test a few years back on multiple torque wrenches......they actually found that the harbor freight digital with the audible alarm was one of the most accurate. It is about 3 inches long and you can use it with a large breaker bar.
I have a Mac one that goes to 250 ft/lbs. Bought it in 1993. Sent it Mac a couple times to get certified. Came back with flying colors. Good, quality tools last a lifetime folks.
Depends on what your doing with it. I have in lb and ft lb click style for dead torque, and also have in lb and ft lb beam style for doing dead torque/rotating torque and my 3/4" is a torqometer with a dial for dead torque/rotating torque. All of mine are Snap-On except the beam wrenches which are Matco.
I honestly try to stay out of Harbor Freight. Its the retail arm of the Communist Chinese government. Most of the stuff in there is made by 12 year old girls that are chained to the equipment. Besides the fact that most of it is made out of recycled tuna fish cans
The snap on kool aid must be wearing off... Tools are the only things I have that are first class or nothing. I learned the harbor freight lesson years ago. Naturally most of my stuff is Mac, although I do have a handful of snap on stuff that I either bought back when I was wrenching or took on trade.
I'm not and never buy tools at Harbor freight. I have a coupon for Summit Racing so I will pick from there stock. Probably go Sunday.
