my brother is seriously looking at a 72 gs ht. if he purchases it he would like to repaint it black. i checked the altantabuick site and if i read the paint facts correctly, it states that "regal black" was not a color for 1972 a-body cars.
i have the paint codes sheet for 1972 at home, but i am wondering if someone today can confirm black as a correct/incorrect exterior colour.

    Gerry,
it was available in 72. code 19 Regal Black. I have the 1972 PPG color charts and the paint chart only shows the code and name. Was available 1970 through 1975.

Gerry, The code 19 Regal Black was only available as a special order on the Skylarks according to a Buick sales brochure I have. My 72 was originally Regal Black with a white vinyl top.

I can believe that ....Only 113 Coupes were built and 10 verts in Black for 72 GS's.

Pat, I didn't know that Buick only made 113 of my car in black...I learn something new every time I log on. I wonder how many of the 113 black Skylarks were GS 455 cars?

I can't answer that, but if you get one of Mike Trommetters 68-72 Production codes reference guide, it will tell you how many cars were built with each option.Wont break it down as to how many 455's were each color, but will tell you how many 455's were produced and how many black cars were produced as well. Worth every cent that you will pay. All of this is GM breakdowns too.
