I am trying to pull my driver side fender on my 1965 Skylark and have run into a jam. I cannot remove the bolt at the bottom (near the rocker panel). After inspecting the passenger side it looks like there is a nut that holds the boly in place (the hole is not threaded). Well there seems to be no way to reach this nut so the bolt can be turned but that is all it does, turn.

Does anyone have any suggestions how I can reach this nut oe any alternative to removing this fender?

Thank you in advance for any tips or suggestions....Joe

I don't think there is a nut, there might be a tad that the bolt threaded into, it sounds like that Tab has broken off. If this is the case, you might have to just cut the head of the bolt off or drill it out.

I know the head of the bolt is recessed a little bit, you can try to grad the head of the bolt with a pair of vice grips and pull down hard and turn, what you're trying to do is put that broken Ted in a bind so you can unthread the bolt.

    good luck

    Ditto, except being a 64!

I think I could tighten, but not loosen. I finally tightened until the bolt stripped.

After having my car all apart on the passenger side for A/C conversion, I might have a difficult, but possible solution. It's not going to be easy, but I could see that whole drop-in nut while I had the evaporator pulled out of my car.

I think you can access the nut by tearing the whole floor-vent door assembly out and getting in there with a wrench, vise-grips, or whatever. Hope somebody in your family is double-jointed...

    Adam,

I think I am going to go the drill route, I am definitely not a contortionist :).

Thanks for the advice guys, hopefully I will tackle this tomorrow and come back with good news...Joe
