I posted this on the Z28 forum and not much help there so far. I am tearing down a blower 383 lt with a trached block to sell off the parts. I get to the balancer and find it is a little wierd, the balancer is press fit to the hub, fine i get out the puller and that comes off fine. Next go to remove the crank bolt, NO CRANK BOLT! Never had one, not designed for one, no way for my trusty crowsfoot puller to work. As far as I can tell it is an aftermarket hub, maybe and ATI (had ATI procharger kit on it.) I will get some pictures of it today. Anyone ever heard of a balancer without a bolt to hold it on?

 chevy :spank: :spank: I thought these things were supposed to be easy to work on!

Lots of the early small Chevys had pressed-on balancers only. I've drilled & tapped a few of those crank snouts in my time.

Especially fun when the press fit isn't so good anymore and the balancer drops itself off the nose from time to time.

The interesting part is this is not a cheap hub. It looks like it is billet. Stock hubs have a bolt. Also this is on a SCAT forged crank.

Uhhhhhh, only the hi-po engines used to come with a bolt in the center of the crank to hold the balancer on.

That must be one of those lo-po Chinese cranks you've got there.

All I know is that SCAT is an american company. One of the LT1 guys said you can put a 4 inch long caliper bolt in and then use your puller. The other option is to put on an axle puller with a slide hammer and beat it out.
