While helping my brother-in-law with his 70 350 GS, I got to looking at a repo cover he had bought from a parts place.
Something didnt look quite right, so I brought it home to compare to a repo cover I had picked up for one of my cars.
I had a chance to compare them tonight, and found several variances.
It probably wouldnt make a difference for a race car or driver, but having seen all the questions out there about correctness of parts, and the right colors of even small things like brackets and bolts, I know there are some out there like me that are trying to get their car as close to exact and correct as possible.
The top one is the one he bought, and the bottom one is the repo I had.
His looks like they just took a cover from another make, and flipped it.
The starter hole is stamped right through the reinforcement lines.
The metal on his is about 25% thinner. This seems to have allowed the metal to warp when made, and the lines dont seem to be as crisp.
There are some letters stamped next to the starter hole that dont belong there.
There are also noticeable differences in the shapes of the various patterns and cut outs.
Lastly, I matched them up to one of the original covers on my cars. The lower one definitely matches both my originals.
I am not exactly positive where he got his, but I can tell you I got mine from Mike Garrison (Racebuicks) on the board here.
I just wanted to share my finding for those out there with 4 spds that might be needing one of these in the future.

Jeff First let me say thanks for the comparison. I had seen those on Ebay and I thought they looked different. I can see they are alot worse than the first look I got of one on the internet. Nice pictures!!! It shows all the differences well. Thanks for the props on my part.

    Jeff,
I would also like to add that Mike's repro looks exactly like the original 69-72 part that I have. We matched them up at the Nats two years ago.

What are they asking for that one!!??

Nevermind I found it!!! It amazes me that with 6 days to go and the original is going to cost more than a nearly exact repop of it.
