I bought a set of the reproduction rallye wheels and I was a little disappointed to find out that my NOS 71-72 center caps fit very loosely. They fit nice and tight on my used original wheels. I tried to bend the four little tangs to no avail. Didnt help and it Im afraid of breaking them. Im going to try laying a bead of clear silicone around the inside edge of the cap. Anybody else have this problem? Any solutions? Jason
I found an answer to my loose center cap problem. I found an o-ring that fit around the 4 tangs on the cap. Once I re installed the cap with the o-ring in place, it fit nice and tight. One word of warning though, make sure the o-ring is not too thick. Otherwise the tangs will not clip on the wheels enough and the cap will fall off. The o-ring trick is alot neater than using silicone. Jason
Jason, By any chance did you get the rallye wheel repros from Coker Tire? I was looking at those and wondering if they were worth the money? o No: David
I use a snap ring inside my center caps.......they hold them in tightly and a thief would need tools to take them off. If you have a 2-1/8" hole, get 2-1/8" inside snap rings.:bglasses:
Wait, you said 71-72. Wheels from '71-'76 used a 2" hole. '66-'70 used a 2-1/8" hole. That's your problem, now you have the correct wheels but the wrong caps.:bglasses:
71-72 center caps Are you talking about the 71-72 Skylark center caps? From the back, do they have screws holding them together or do they appear to be riveted together?
