Does anyone know if there is an aftermarket roof skin available for the 70-72 Skylarks? I went to Dynacorn's website, but didn't find anything there. I thought I had seen an ad where a 70-72 GM "A" body shell was going to be offered in the near future, and it seem's that if that's true, a roof skin should be in the work's? Anyone have any info? Thanks, Tom
Tom, I don't know of any repro roof skins but it's probably easier to install an original roof with all the inner structure then it is to install just a roof skin. A friend of mine cut off an original roof skin and installed it on his chevelle. It seemed to take him forever. Duane
I don't know the quality but here is a repro roof on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1968...ptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories
In the item description it states item surface finish-plastic??? That has to be a mistake doesn't it? I'm looking at buying back my wife's old 72 GS that we owned when we were first married back in 1992. I sold it back then because of the rust under the vinyl top back by the rear window and roof pillars. Well, fast forward 17 years, and rust never rest's, and the roof feels spongey up at the front above the windsheild. Good thing it has been stored inside for the last 10+ years, or I doubt there would be anything left to restore.ou: If I didn't have two full GM quarters, I wouldn't even think about buying this car back, that and a little sentimental value. Since I'm starting my own restoration business, I might just use this car as a rolling business cardo No:
Tom , 1968-1972 a bodies have the same roof skin 1970-2 chevelle will work . The only difference in the earlier 68-9 cars (buicks). In 70-72 there is a filler panel @ the rear of the 1/4 window & the drip edge is different . I have a drip edge & filler piece if you want a pic . Nick
Yup, repos are now available. Ground Up has them listed for $370. Fits 68-72 Chevelle: http://www.ss396.com/mm5/merchant.m...&Product_Code=RP-1418&Category_Code=ROOFPANEL
To think I thought I was insane to have kept a complete roof section from a nice 71 Skylark.... I'll never use it,but someone else may sometime...
Wheelz here is parting out a 72 Skylark 2dr, contact him to see if the roof is useable....he will be cutting it up for scrap soon.
