Looking for feedback on reproduction dash pads. The Urethane is supposed to be good on one hand and then they are slimey, can't paint !! Vinyl wrap they call it, same as factory, i'm confused . Anyone with some sort of experience on Reproduction Dash pads , has heard Horror stories, please come foreward. Thanks Maury

Reproduction dash pads for what? I was not aware of any reproduction dash pads for Buicks.

Maury--Do you mean "Just Dashes"--the outfit that strips off the old vinyl skin and then applies a new skin with that vacuum table?

On Olds's, from what I have seen, their work sucks--the dash grain is WAY OFF--and this is what you get for the $650 or so they charge + high shipping. This may be limited to Olds's vinyl pattern. Also--the part I don't understand is that they strip of the old vinyl, and some of the underlying foam and then claim to lay on new foam AND SHAPE IT BACK TO ORIGINAL--unless they have some sort of mold there is no way they can get the subtle "lines" back into the foam so it shows up in the vinyl skin. In the mag articles I have seen on them doing this process there was no mold or form used to shape the new underlying foam they applied.

You might ask them to send you a grain sample for your pad no matter who you use.

Also--urethanes, in general, tend to flow or sag over time...not sure how the pads hold up to this.

I would just try to find a good used Northern pad---there are plenty out there for sale. We even find them down here in the sun baked salvage yards occasionally. It is amazing how well some of this stuff has held up considering the 30+ years of abuse they have taken.

Patton, and all, this is for a 1972 Monte carlo. Problem being for most repros. Urethane , vinyl wrap. Looking for feedback from anyone , on what is the way to go. Urethane is supposed to be best, but heard is slimy not paintable, etc. Looking for Horror stories and what to stay away from. Thanks Maury
