Just talked to Joel from the Mopar Nats and got these results from the F.A.S.T. race held there. #1 qualifyer is Wayne Nelson with the Blue Vett with a 11.03. #2 is Dave Sr with his hemi Red GTX and a 11.45 time and #3 is Joel Nystroms Green GTX with a 11.46 time. Dave Jr did sell his Purple Challenger. Bad news is that Dave Sr. fell and broke his sholder in 5 places and Dave jr is now driving Dave Sr car. Joels flywheel took a dump but being that he is at the biggest swap meet in the country he found one and replaced it so he is still in it.It lookes like again that Wayne and his Vett are going to be the one to beat. There were about 12 cars in the runing but they are now down to 8. It is hot there with air temps from 100 to 105. I will post more later tonight when Joel calls on his way home.
I was there yesterday and Wayne had them covered with ease. Grg G. is not there. As for the temperature it was 100 F and the heat index was 110 F or so. I believe it set the record for this date there. Many just got under the stands and looked out through the cracks. Overwelming heat. I do not know how the drivers could get in their fireproof clothes up and get in those cars.
Excessive heat! Wear shorts! Just don't get caught like I did! Next time I'll slide them down around my ankles and race Bill Clinton style!
They were catching that left and right. Long pants and sleeves or you were sent to the pits. It was the hottest temps for a drag event that I have ever attended. I suspect some people left on a stretcher.
Results again Just got off the phone with Joel, and it went like this: 1st round eliminations were Wayne winning Kevin, Dave Jr winning Danny,Joel winning Steve,and Tom winning Ralph. 2nd round, Wayne winning Tom, and Dave winning Joel with a extremley close race, 11.54 vs 11.55., 3rd round was Wayne winning Dave Jr. Waynes Vett was like a bracket car with 3 runs of 11.03 and the fastest run was a 10.93 at 128mph. Joel got his best 60 ft with a 1.81. Dave Sr is still in the hospital and will get operated on tommorow, when he fell he hit the ground pretty hard and Shattered his shoulder in 5 places, not good!!! Looks like the man of the weekend was Wayne Nelson with his Blue Vett!! Later Jim
What an emotional time for Dave D. Sold the car, did well with Dad's car, but Dad getting busted up in the hospital (I assume locally in Columbus?) Way to go Wayne! You've taken this to a new level.
