What kind of rev limiter is anybody using? I really dont want to use an MSD,or an aftermarket tach. Pulled a crane points conversion out of Chuck Lombardies Chevelle at a race because of problems, besides the rev limiter was so vague.
MSD sells a stand alone unit which i am in the process of installing , i figured out i can , i hope ??? stick it on a plate clamped to the column , of course now that i think of it the brake peddle might cause an issue with that , otherwise i guess i could stick it in the glove box ???
John, Mallory makes a nice inexpensive one that sets with the turn of a dial. It has a main box and a dial/bezel that both need to be mounted out of sight. On my dads '64 Impala I fabbed up a bracket that everything could mount to and then just put the whole thing in the glove box. After we got it set where we wanted it, we just taped the dial so it couldn't move. I think you can buy it at Jegs and its about $120.
Rev limiter......Lifter's???? Heck McDowell just uses Hydraulic Lifter's, they let you know when your "too high" At Martin I was behind the burnbox watching people make their run's, and one time while McDowell was doing one of those John Force burnout's, a guy standing next to me say's "man that guy is hitting the rev limiter doing his burnout", I just got an open mouthed stare from the guy when I told him the car didn't have a rev limiter  :3gears:
I'm using an MSD soft touch mounted in the glove box. It uses the same plug in chips as the other MSD units.
John I always use the right foot in combo with the right hand for an auto and the right foot, left foot and right hand in a four speed. Here is an example for you :3gears: You could also try those springs your brother gave me for the pace car that should limit the higher rpm! uzzled: I have never had problems with my method, give it a try. o No:
tom i have used that rev limiter already , 3rd gear last year at LVD and the car nosed over and i look at the tach and its at 5500 , which was aboiut 1000 rpm less than actual . when i pulled the rockers off the other day the tip of the valves looked a little abused , i don't think that's the first time for this ou:
I tried using the valve float method last year. Bad Idea. After 2 bent rocker arm shafts, and 4 bent pushrods (1 had to be bent back some for removal ou: ), this year I vow, I will not float my valves, no float valves, no float valves,............ Joe X.
