Hey guys my car was running fine for a couple of days...now when i go to drive around town ill be at around 25 30 MPH and the car is just revving really high but not pulling anymore and to get it to stop revving so high i have to floor it real quick at which point it jumps then the revvs go down.
    Whats going on with it?
Oh btw this was happening last night when it was REALLY cold...i dont know if that would have anything to do with it

Some things to check out under the hood...

Is the carb throttle return spring in place and in good shape? It should take a reasonable amount of effort to open the throttle from the gas pedal.

Is the carburetor linkage binding in some way? Maybe the gasket under the carb is causing the throttle blades to hang up a bit?

Is the choke linkage moving freely or perhaps there's some binding there?

Just a few things off the top of my head.

the small l style bar that comes out of the intake manifold on the passenger side behind the plastic choke piece keeps slipping out...could that be it.
need an e clip to fix it?

Check the vacuum line going from the back of the manifold down to the modulator on the trans. If it's leaking vacuum the car will slip out of gear and rev like it's in neutral until you get on it and it goes back into gear. :Smarty:

ive only got a couple lines running out of the back of the intake manifold...one metal one that looks like its going down too the tranny...looks good and then 2 more that go to the firewall and one that goes to the brake booster...

It's the metal one.. Make sure it's connected tightly to the manifold with the little piece of rubber line. Then check where it connects to the trans. Same short piece of rubber line is there also. They crack and leak. I had to put some small zip ties on mine to keep it tight.

yeah i just replaced the valley pan and that could be why...it feels like there is a small peice of metal in it should the pieces be touching?

It doesn't matter if the metal line touches the fitting in the manifold. The rubber hose is just the coupling between the 2. Just make sure it seals well and there is no obstructions in the line.

Sounds like the throttle is sticking. Either the throttle blades in the carb are sticking or the linkage- check them:TU:

Revving + no go = transmission slipping. Throttle isn't sticking. Dave I think is on the right track.

Didn't catch the no-go in the original post. I read the engine revved and he had to jump on the accelerator pedal to "un-stick" what was sticking. If he is revvin' and sitting still- then yep I'd say check the tranny fluid he sounds a few quarts low.:TU:

    Michael Evans a new project

How many miles on the transmission?

    Check the transmission fluid level.

    What color is the fluid?

What does the fluid smell like?

What does the fluid taste like ? (don't do this) just joking around.

    Sounds to me that:

    1. The fluid level is low.
    2. filter/pick up has fell off maybe.
    3. Transmission has bad internal seals and will need a rebuild.
    4. Bands inside transmission are burned up and the transmission will need a rebuild.

All but number 2 will get better (slip less) as the transmission warms up

i think it needs some tranny fluid...where do i fill it up at?

you should have a transmission dip stick tube by the firewall. you check the tranny fluid level with the engine running and the tranny in park. You also fill the tranny with the dip stick tube by the firewall.

hey guys...it was really low...a little below the "add one pint line" i ended up putting 2 quarts in and i still think its low...still revving up high too

If the level was at the add one pint line, I don't think you could have put 2 quarts in without it overflowing out the filler tube.
