    OK... I give.
It seems I have a nest of electrical gremlins that live/hide/prosper in my 1965 Skylark's fuse block/firewall connector. Seems that the ole glass BUSS fuses and holders have exceeded the designed service life. I'm ready to chuck the whole mess and put in a new harness. Anybody out there have any experience with the Painless system?

    Thanks,
    JMC

    Hey John,

I was gonna ask the same thing about the Painless system as well. I was in Borders the othernight and found a book on rewiring your classis car and they used everything from Painless.. Was wondering about quailty and price, then the book could aid in usage.. :)

Next time yer in town, suds are on me!

    Scott,

From the scuttlebutt I've heard, the quality is good. I don't know about the price. In SoCal, AutoZone looks like the big vendor. I was primarily interested in the modern fuse block Painless offered.

I recently replaced the rear body harness with a M&H product and it was 98% perfect. They offer all the wire harnesses for the '65, but use the Buss fuses. But, holy cow, does it cost for a full rewire! Dash is $350, engine is $175 and front lights about $200. If a the replacement is identical, then the same problems come with it... mainly the fuse/fuse holders corrode and the force necessary to install the fuses tends to damage the connections on the back of the block over time.

On the bright side, I've gotten the old girl out for a drive at least once a week this summer. I made a 'mistake' in chiding a friend with a '29 Ford A pickup about not driving his once a week, so when the Buick sat for six months, he collected payback with interest.

    Cheers,
    John :beer

    John,

Scuttlebutt? :puzzled: AutoZone, this place has become #4 on my list of places to look for stuff, sometimes they amaze me with what they have that Kay's, Napa or APU doesn't....

The book shows everything looks like good stuff, the one thing I didn't like was it showed you wiring each wire.. Am I lazy, or is that just plain nuts?

Those prices are, well, WOW.. Especially for the front lights.. Jeezz, what are they selling me, wires or a new front end?

I'd be surprised if they didn't offer the block in both flavors of fuse types.. That would limit peoples want for their aftermarket setups I would think.

Congrats on gettin the ol girl out once a week! Sometimes it's downright tough. Don'tcha just hate it when harmless fun and games comes back and bites ya in the @$$. :Dou:

    Cheerio for now,

    Scott

I used a complete Painless Wiring kit for my old jetboat. It was a nice piece. Lots of wire length, good markings. Once I get this *&%$# motor and trans back in the GS, I'll be buying their muscle car wiring kit.

    Scuttlebutt

Scuttlebutt is also a term for a drinking fountain in the Navy.
