TA doesnt list one but summits catalog does and their tech department confirmed via email that it was correct. However I am more than a little skeptical and that made me wonder..

Whats the difference between 69 and 70 lifters? Larger bore on one of them? Of course I ended up with a 69 block when it seems that allot of things are geared for the 70 and up blocks. :af:

    Thanks yall

1970 and later were oiled through the pushrods and lifters. 69 and early ones oiled through the rocker arms. That is why when you install a set of 67 through 69 heads on a 455, you install the lifters and pushrods from the 455 heads.

It sounds like it would be possible to use 70 and later lifters on a 69 block but not the reverse. I was wondering because the lifters in my 69 430 look like they have oiling holes in the top but the pushrods were solid so that makes sense now.

Can anyone confirm that the 70 and later lifters are backwards compatible?

    *edit*

Looks like the answer would be yes but im assuming the Rhoads lifter wouldn't work because there is no oiling source through it as the 70 and up has. :Dou:

    Jason,
I would say you could use a 70 and up lifter in the 69 block. You just need to block off the oil passage in the block or head, and use hollow pushrods for valvetrain oiling. You can't use a 69 lifter in a 70 and up block because there would be no way to oil the valvetrain.
