I guess that means he wasn't working on Chris or my motors... :Brow: I'm thinking that car has had more towed miles than driven miles in the last couple years.
Steve, You're right about the miles. Mike put about 300 on it in the 2 or 3 years he had it and I put about 600 on it in the past year. Now, what's the mileage from Chicago to Vancouver and now Vancouver to Mississippi? It's a very pampered car. :bglasses: In the last 20 years it's only had 14,000 miles put on it. (25,000 on a trailer though  ) Harvey
HAHA. Just noticed this thread. Yep, she's coming home, thanks to Harvey for all the nice restoration work. Hope he enjoyed their time together. I'm a big hearted man. Her affair with Harvey was short lived and I'm willing to forgive and forget and have her back again. Truth be known, why 300 miles in 3 years? 1. I live in China. Opportunitities are small to drive it in the first place. 2. The heater core started leaking and I didn't trust anybody to fix it right, coupled with the fact that I'm usually only in USA for a few days at a time to do anything. So for the last two years it got about 50 miles due to the cooling system issue. It's going to be great to have her back in running shape again. Only 43K miles still on the car. Isn't that a hoot. The previous owners had her sitting around not running for a long time too, as the stories go. This car has a rich gographic history to be sure but not much driving though. Sold new in Colorado. I think Harvey back tracked it to the second owner. Went to Arizona in about '98 Went to Illinois in about '99 Went to Vancouver in '04 Now to Mississippi in '05 Dan, I don't know about the Nats. That's almost 1000 miles from her new home near Jackson MS. A long trip. If the Southeastern Chapter organizes something, that would be another story. If I can make it to the Nats this year, probably would bring the 68GS400 4spd in my AV with 17K miles that's in Chicago area.
Harvey says it's a 455 based on the rear gears at 3.08, the steering column, and rear axle mounts both for a BB. So now that's what it's badged as and fitted with. 455/400. Wish the Stage1 was true, but maybe not. He said that the ST1 badges were not the original post type either. I never did find out if Harvey found the axle codes. So best anybody can figure out it's originally a GS455. I believe he said the second owner bought it without an engine or tranny in it. That's a very similar story to the one I got from the person I bought it from. So the story is that the BB engine got blown up early on, and it sat around for many years. Then sold to a guy who put in a 350/350 irrespective of how it was originally set up. My story was that it was the original owner's son. Harvey's is that it's just somebody else.
I traced the car back to the person who bought it in the "early 1980's" without the engine or trans. He put the 350/350 in it, painted it and put on a new top. Kept it for 18 years then sold it to the fellow in Arizona. As Mike said, the steering shaft, frame holes and rear end are all 455. I discount it as a Stage, as Mike said, because of the narrow pin emblems and the 3.08 possi rear. I did find the build sheet when I pulled the tank and it was for a 4 door car! Two numbers off the serial number for this car. I guess the boys at the plant had a big laugh over that one. Mike, the car has 41,650 on it now. I almost wore it out in the one year + that I owned it! :bglasses: Enjoy the car Mike. Cheers Harvey
Yes, I still have it. Buying the Stage 1 was the main reason I sold the convertible. I can only afford to keep so many and one had to go. The rest is now history. Harvey
