right stuff detailing 64-67 brake lines

  1. I ordered a set of stainless brake lines for a 65 skylark with disc brakes and after sending me two sets we figured out that they dont have a correct pattern. i have made arrangements to bend up a set on my chassis and send them to Right stuff detailing so they will have accurate patterns for our 64-67 Buick A bodies. I will send them a set patterned for manual disc brakes and power disc brakes, the only catch is that you will have to use the proportioning valve that mounts below the master cylinder in order for these lines to be correct. just thought some of you would like to have this info.. these are the only guys i have found who would even sell a kit for the early cars with disc brakes. a few months ago I ordered a set from them for my 66 conv.
They fit great EXCEPT for one small area. the line that runs along the frame to the rear came up about ~7" short where it meets up with the line coming down from the Prop valve. I had some line here at the house and made a connector. Other than that I am very happy with the kit I got from them.

  3. Did you mount your disc brake front hose brackets in the same place as the original drum brake hose brackets?

Bob, is there still a junction block mounted on the frame in the stock location?
I'm using the 'repo' brass block/prop mounted above the frame, It's a tight fit with a GS manual trans setup. Exhaust is close too. I rebent the stock front-rear line to fit. Stock length was fine. I'll try to get some pics posted.

I also ordered from Right stuff.....they messed up my order, but were quick to rectify the problems. Their repo fuel line was an inch too short and wouldn't protrude from the opening in the frame, so I sent them an original, which they copied. I really appreciate the effort they made to correct any problems.:TU:

The guy I bought my 67GS from recommended this place. He ordered from them for his GTO two times and both times was sent the wrong parts. They let him keep those parts and sent him the correct ones. He stated they are very nice people to deal with.
I did plan on getting lines from them when I do a frame off next winter on the GS. It has pwr. disk brakes. Hopefully the pattern will be correct.

  6. The problem i had is shown in the pictures.. here is the passenger side test fit
if i move the bracket to reach the hard line then the hose will be to short

Is that a disk-brake hose bracket? (I hear they are different). Here's a pic of my '66 with stock 'drum' bracket....I haven't test-fit it with the disc brake caliper yet. (Hope it works!)
Could your bracket just be up-side down?

Here is the front-to-rear line modified to accomodate the new disc dist/prop valve. The stock line is also pictured, along with the 'prototype' front crossmember line.
I'm making my own front lines from plain steel brakeline, since it's somewhat of a custom setup...

Walt I checked my brackets (67) from man. drum brakes, power drum brakes and power disks. All the brackets are the same as yours. Not like Bob's.

  10. hmmm, maybe thats where i'm going wrong. I'm using the disc brake hose brackets. it's possible they made the kit to use the drum brackets which are different

Here's another pic of the RF bracket....you can clearly see the offset that is not on the disc brackets.
Will the disc hoses fit with the drum brackets?

My disk brake brackets don't look like yours. Maybe yours is year specific.

  13. I pulled my entire disc brake setup from a 71 GS, if yours is the 67 4 piston setup it may be different. i can only find one of my drum brake brackets.. doh

I was wrong. Walt is correct. The top bracket is from a 67 pwr drum car. Bottom from a 67 man. drum car. The bracket from the pwr drum car is the same as the one on my pwr disk 67 GS.
The flex line will phisically fit in the either bracket. The holes are the same but the angle of the bracket is different.

I used Inline Tube for my complete brake and fuel line sets (in stainless of course) for my 70 'Lark. Tubes fit perfectly!!! If I ever had to order lines for another restoration, I wouldn't think twice about ordering from them again!

    Just my .02

  17. I called inline tube first and they no longer offer a disc brake conversion line kit for the 64-67 cars

  18. today i figured out that the disc brake hoses wont fit correctly with our original 64-67 hose brackets correctly. the first picture below is of a 69-72 hose bracket and you can see that the metal where the clip attaches the hose is 2 layers thick. the 64-67 hose brackets are single thickness and the hose and clip assy are loose if used this way. I cut apart my 71 disc brake hose brackets and welded the extra tab to my 65 brackets and now the hoses and clips fit exactly as designed. also you will have to file the hole in the drum brake bracket to get the disc hose to fit as it has a different shape than the drum brake hose.
