A steering upgrade for big Buicks '65-'70 can be found in the '69-'70 Riviera GS model. I have a '70 Riv GS parts car and discovered that the steering box has a very fast variable ratio. Found out that this fast box was standard equipment on the '69 and '70 Riv GS. I don't know what the ratio is,but , at 2 and a quarter turns lock to lock ,is quite fast! This box is going into my '66 Riv that I just put on the road. I would like to find another one for my '67 Wildcat that has 4 turns lock to lock. Another good source is '66 only, Cadillac which had a very fast, variable ratio steering box. Probably would have to switch your pitman arm out to fit a Buick. These may even work on '64 model big Buicks. The Cadillac box is 3 turns lock to lock.

    steering box....

Ted, thanks for the info. I bought a 69' Riviera variable ratio steering box for my 67' awhile back, and now I know it was the right decision. By the way, Did you ever get around to measuring the diameter of the 70 Riviera GS front sway bar for me? Let me know, Randy

Believe it or not, that '70 GS Riv front bar is only 1" in diameter. I believe stiffer springs and shocks give it the better handling. I may look for larger aftermarket one's for my '66 and '69 Rivs. Hope this info helps! Ted

    sway bar diameter...

Ted, that is still larger than the ones on both of my non-GS 67' Rivieras. They measure 7/8" diameter on the front bar. Thanks for the info, Randy
