I'm finally going to replace my old headlight actuators.

There is a guy who sells the Camaro canisters already converted to work with our Rivs, but he wants $300 EACH for them.

I can buy each one for $79 from a Camaro place.

Can anybody tell me exactly what mods I have to make to these canisters to get them to work?

Cool. I'd be interested in seeing how you adapt these. Ive seen them adapted on another website, but I didnt care for how the rod was extended.

I'm ordering them today, so in a week or so I'll have had the chance to brainstorm about it. I'll post pics as I go forward.

In the post here the gent mentions that the elbow on the bottom needs to be cut off because it hits the bumper. I don't understand that, so I'll have to see exactly what is involved there.

Not sure if this helps Jeff, it was posted some time ago, but referenced recently !

The original vacuum cannister ports did not have right angle bends in them, but just the bottom ones need to be altered,
and the cannister rod needs to be extended to allow full up/down travel for the Rivi headlight pods.
I think the mods are fully covered in Bjorn's post ! :beer :TU:

I just dropped off my new Camaro RS/SS vacuum canisters at Ken Lisk's. He'll affix a length of threaded rod to the top of the existing shaft. He'll also cut the bottom vacuum bung in the middle of the 90* bend - which will allow me to connect vacuum line to it in a manner so as not to interfere with the bumper.

I'll post pics when he is finished.

There is also a other option, on my mate's 68 riv, we removed all the vacuum lines and canisters, and replaced it with electrical actuators, 2 relays for the up and down functions (controlled from the light switch) and we were in business, it works a charm.

If there is any interest i can poste some pics. when i get back from work.

I'd like to see this. I know someday I will be replacing mine. I have a "lazy eye". One set of light will fall open after the car sets for an hour. Yards, Can you post pics of what U did with yours?

Wernt the early'r Rivs equiped with electric operators for the headlights?

I imagine retrofitting the electric system from a '66-'67 to a '68-'69 may be doable.
    Maybe? :Do No:

The only reason I can think of that they went to a vacuum system was to make the operation more quiet.

They were basically a power window motor. My '66 is still working-I have them on about twice a year:pp I like the looks of the '65 clams-only problem is keeping them working. I have a many page service bulletin covering the early problems

    Thanks Dannie, not a problem.
I'm sure there are lots of other '68/'69 Riviera owners who would be interested in the conversion too !
The vacuum system is great when everything is working as it should, but it can be a real P.I.T.A. to trouble shoot,
if you have a system with faulty components that are not working properly !! :beer :TU:
