Hey guys, I've just started to notice that when my car shifts from 2nd gear to 3rd gear it really bogs down for a second, kind of hesitates then will pick up speed then bog again like it's trying to hit the gear but missing it. Is this just a minor tune up problem now because it's summer time or is it something else? I'm afraid to drive it when it acts like this. When I hit third gear and it bogs, my top speed can only reach like 70 MPH then will eventually go faster but not shift like it should. Any suggestions or people out there with problems like this?

    Thanks, Nick

    Grendel,
From what you describe, it seems more like a "bog" problem than a tranny problem. Doesn't seem to be slippage or hesitation in shifting. Perhaps you should post in "Street Strip V8" area; maybe get more bites.... and change the title of the thread, since offhand, it sounds like something fuel related (e.g., carb), or even possibly ignition related (timing, spark advance, etc.). :beer

Your problem more than likely has nothing to do with the transmission. It is a fuel delivery problem. Check the fuel filter, and lines for restrictions. Then check fuel pump pressure and volume.

Larry's correct.....but when mine used to do that, my fuel pump had good pressure and volume. They say a pint in 30 seconds while cranking is good, mine pumped at least that much. But when I replaced it, the problem went away. Part that sucks is I discovered the problem when I lost a race to a v6 turbo chrysler something. As soon as I got up to around 60, my motor ran out of steam. If your pump is old or appears to be original, replace it. You may also want to check the gas filter first though. :bglasses:

I had a similar problem with my 84 Electra last year. The car would get up about 55-60 start to bog out and would take a while to get past 60. Found out it was the fuel filter. It was put in backwards. After that all problems were all gone
