#1 A guys has 2 245 45 15 hoosier road race tires (slicks) in the softest compound they use for that application. Can these be used as drag slicks or is the compound not even close(he says they would work better than street tires). Also will that tire fit under my 71 skylark with a standard backspace wheel.

    Thanks,

They should be better than street tires, but not as good as drag slicks. Road race tires have stiff sidewalls with little to no flex.

I have known guys that have tried to use old Goodyear Eagle stock car slicks as drag slicks. You can find them everywhere cheap. BUT, from what I have seen of them, they have really stiff sidewalls, and are designed to cool off, for tire life on track. And we all know that we want our tires to stay hot and sticky. In the cases I have seen, the guys did HUGEEEEEE burnouts to get them hot hot hot, then raced to the starting line to make a run. Better to just buy drag tires right off the bat in my opinion..........
