    Rochester Carb ID - What's Best for a 64 300ci ?

Hey Guys, I'm thinking of replacing the Edelbrock 500cfm and need confirmation if this is/could be the correct carb for my 64 300ci. I see numbers on some individual parts, but nothing on the outside of the carb, except Rochester '4 Jet' .

Also, another dumb question  . . . Is the stock manifold for a 64 300ci a squarebore or spreadbore?

    Thanks in advance
    Cheers

    Hey Jeff, what's up?

I am not that familiar with the 300, but I image someone can help you with the bore. It should be a square bore.

The 4 jets had a triangle metal tag that was placed under the top corner screw. Most of them were discarded the first time they were rebuilt, so makes it tough to ID the carb.

    Rochester Carb ID - What's Best for a 64 300ci ?

Hey Mark~ I'm just trying to find a better carb for my mostly stock 300 low comp engine. The car came with the Rochester that I'm talking about; I'm just not sure if it's a good choice. If it's a good choice, perfect! Otherwise I need to find something better.

I took the base off today and found the numbers 7026941.
My research shows this is for a 1966 Manual Transmission. I'm not a carb guy, so any help is appreciated.

Yes, it's a square bore. I used to have a 64 4GC carb, but either tossed it when I moved 5 years ago, or it's in a box buried in my garage.:Dou:

So does anyone have any opinions or suggestions about which Rochester to use on my daily driver 64 Skylark 300ci automatic? Will the one above work or should I get a different one?

I'm not sure, but I think the correct one is # 7024044
    The one I have is # 7026941

    anyone?............................ bueller?............................. bueller?...............................bueller?

I've googled as much as I can and can't find the answer. I could only find one other reference to rochester carb # 7026941 and someone appears to have talked him into believing it's a '0' instead of '9' so that didn't help. Anyone know this application?

Hey Jeff where is that number cast into the carb? Maybe its a part number for the part of the carb its cast into?

perhaps you could enlist the help of someone with the appropriate parts book.....

That carb has the hot water choke set up. Are you planning on using that set up? There is someone looking for a hot water choke 4gc for me to rebuilt for his 300.
I don't know what other options there are for the 300 with the original intake other than the 4gc carb. Parts available for them. Not as easy to find, but they are out there if you need to build one.

Actually once I got to thinking about it, I realized I have a 55-65 rochester carbs book.

So looking around in the Buick 1964 300ci section I found your 7024044 carb and looked at all the part numbers to see if you rnumber poopped up. It did not. there wer lots of similar 7026XXX numbers but not the 941 you mention.

So I guess its safe to say you are not looking at a 7024044 carb there, which we may already have known.

I bet if you find someone with the same book I have but for 65 and newer, it will have the info you need.

    Thanks guys...

The part number 7026941 is on the bottom, near the edge. I suppose it could be a part number and not the carb number... <?>

Either way, I guess that I'm on the hunt for a 7024044. When/if I find the correct carb, I'll likely sell the 7026941; but until then, it's my backup plan.
