if i read the old chiltons book correctly minimum for a 455 is .005.and thats about what i have on several is this correct?
On a performance motor, I run nothing less than .010 rod side clearance. .005-.007 was fine for grandma going to church. My prefered spec is .012, for a stock rod motor. I have the crank throw slightly widened during the regrind to achieve this. In your case, the best way to open it up is to have the big end of the rods ground on a surface grinder, with a magnetic base. Most good machine shops have one. Rod side clearance is critical for cam oiling, and getting the oil out of the bearing. Oil not only lubricates, it cools. JW
Hello Do i understand this right? >>>> On a performance motor, I run nothing less than .010 rod side clearance. .005-.007 was fine for grandma going to church. I just wanna make sure i understand this for my shopping list of what i want from the machinest soon. Thanks! Randy H.
