got a call tonight from a friend of mine to see if i was interested in a rough 69 skylark GS. i was told that they think it has a 401 in it. i have no idea what to look for on this car? not expecting much but who knows. going next weekend to look at it. any help in what to look for-see if it has this-look and see what shape this is in would be greatly appreciated. i can take pictures but i can't post them so i'll have to describe the car to you.
Why can't you post them? Is your camera digital? If so, and you want to post them, just email them to me and I can do it.
rough 69 gary, i'll let you know details as soon as i find out. the car is located in sheffield, close to quaker steak and lube. like i said before, it's complete with a 401 instead of the 400. extra parts but rough. it was under a cover in a barn so my buddie didn't get to see it. the guy wants 500.00 for the car and he's firm on the price. i figure it's worth taking a look at for the money.
Hard to believe someone would go through all the effort to install a 401. I'm betting it's either a 400 or a 430....
I would bet $ it's a 400, and that the seller is confused by the Nailhead "400s" being 401s, so he thinks all Buick "400s" are 401.
Taking Gary along would be your best bet. '69 parts are tough. Whether buying to part out, or to restore, you will still be sizing up the same parts. There will be the likely rust on the dog leg of the front fenders. Even more likely will be rust at the upper rear wheelhouse area and quarter panel. The radiator support will likely be gone near the battery tray as will the rt frt fenderwell. The rear decklid trim, reverse light assembly, console/shifter, grille, grille surround are all pretty critical parts. If you strike out on all of these it would make restoration expensive. NOS driver's side mirrors come up regularly. Headlight doors and taillights lenses are getting tougher everyday. Good luck regardless of what you decide.
rough 69 gary, sent you an email but i'am not sure your going to get it. made arrangements to go look at the car tomorrow. still interested? let me know.
