Running 3500 at 70 want to run 2500 at 70

    Marc, the right way to know what's going on is to pull the cover off the rear end & check gear ratio. Once you verify this, you'll also need to know the tooth count on the speedo drive gear at the output shaft (you can see it once the driven gear is removed from the side of the trans).

    The problem is that we need more info to solve the puzzle...if you know the speedo gear counts, we can pretty much guess axle ratio. Likewise, if we know axle ratio and speedo drive gear, we can tell you what the driven gear should be to make the gage read right. The converter slippage is always part of the equation, but honestly if you were slipping badly enough to throw the numbers off this much you'd have lots of other problems to boot.

    I agree Larry my 72 with 26" tires and 342 rear does 3000/70---if I was
    keeping the car I would go down to 308. Pete
