Hi iam having my 67 special painted went down to take some pics of it today and noticed runs in the clear coat along the bodyline the painter said it still had to be wet sanded and polished yet the car has been there over a month a lot of prep work done small dings and dents taken out old paint striped and ive been very happy with the work but didnt like the painters answer . My question is is this normal ? If the car turns out looking great after polishing could a problem arise down the road this has botherd me all day Thanks Gerry :Do No:

    runs in the clear coat

    Jerry,
There still alot of wet sanding to do, and the runs should disappear. How many coats of clear on the car?
I just finished my 69 GS and the guy used one coat of brown primer, 3 coats of Paint and 3 of clear. Then he wet sanded it, compounded it, polished it and then waxed it.

Don't be alarmed - let your painter do his thing, and take pics of the finished job ! :beer :TU:

I find that the clear is the most difficult coat to do, but you can always wet sand it unlike the base coat. After the clear on my 65 F100, my arms looked like Popeye, but it turned out great. Not a single issue with epoxy, primer and base coat. Clear is too easy to get too thick and you can end up with runs and orange peal. No big deal.

Ditto. A painter that says he has never ran paint either lied or hasn't painted many cars. The least of my worries is runs in clear. That is an easy fix. Although I try not to run clear, the bigger problems are the base coat and primer problems. Once the color is applied....it's all down hill from there (Pretty much) Base coat problems require repainting. Clear coat problems are usually solved with polishing. Orange peel, dust and runs, although not what a painter wants to have in his paint work, is easily fixed with some Polishing :beer

Well, so far one epoxy coat and 2 primers without any runs yet. In the morning I'll sand with 600 dry and add 2 more primer coats and sand it down in the evening..

This weekend will be the base color and clear. So far, things are going very well for my 2nd paint job.
