What's the best way to remove these rust stains? Tried scrubbing with soap, a brush and even some fast orange for the little grit it has...
Some "iron out" or CLR. Scrub the outside of it with the same and it should look as good as new. Keith
If you want an original look by using the old one (i did) i used winks rust out house hold cleaner. It's basically water down muriatic acid. Start by putting on rag and rub it in and slowly scrap off the rust. It's comes off but takes some patience.
I'm in the process of trying to bring this back to life as best as possible. It's cleaned up well so far and I'm going to try a couple "RetroBrite" sessions (see YouTube) before totally giving up. From what I've seen (and read) the combination of hydrogen peroxide and UV rays seem to actually work - to an extent - and I'd like to get that brown stain out, at the very least. Am I wasting my time? Probably but it's an extra part, so it makes a good guinea pig.
I removed the top (replaced it later with silicone adhesive) and soaked it overnight with a mixture of rust remover and Clorox. I don't have a before photo but, here it is now. It was pretty bad.
