Direct quote from me to the guy at the auto-glass shop "Rust? What do you mean you won't remove the back window".

Short story. Went to have my leaky back window removed, cleaned and resealed in place. Turns out the bottom is a wee bit rotten. This fellow won't remove it, just in case he breaks it and is forced to replace it at his cost.
So now it's not a one day $50.00 job. It's a weekend job, with a prayer and a little advice from those who have done this before. If anyone has advice about getting the rear window out, it sure would be appreciated

Getting the window out is the easy part.......fixing the rot is a major PITA! I'm no glass man, but here's how I do it......Remove the trim first. Just be careful, there's a tool for that that you absolutely must use (costs about $10) or else you'll damage the trim and possibly crack the window if you are careless.

Then, using a razor knife, I cut the seal all the way around from the inside. Then with a helper, I feed a length of piano wire through from the inside out, and "saw" all the way around the window. Then I carefully push it out from the inside, (don't push hard...it should push out easy if it's cut out all the way around) and the helper helps hold it while I get out of the car and we both lift it away from the car. There's a tool for doing this that costs about $45, so far I've been able to do it this way without the tool. I've done this about a half dozen times so far and only broke a windshield once and that was when I put it back in. (I pushed too hard on it in a corner) :Dou:

Sounds like a working plan. I'll start this on Friday with any luck this will be a good learning project. Not a find a new back window project. :Dou: Sometimes I think that I shouldn't try these project without adult supervision.
    Thanks for the advice.

I'll let you know how it works out.

I had some guys pop out the back window on my skylark for free, They owed my brother a favor. The cleanup was fun and took awhile. I used No. 7 bug and tar remover to get rid of all that black stuff. Scrapped it all off with a small chisle. Then took a wire wheel brush and clean all the way around down to metal. It was about a days worth of work but then again I don't really work fast. Now I'm looking for a body shop.
