I'm posting this under the BENCH because I wanted to get some good airtime because I need help on this one.

Today I just took apart my engine compartment because I'm doing some freshening up. I'm going to give the firewall a new coat of urethane paint and I'm installing a a/c delete box from American Grafitti. When I took apart the inner fenders, there was some good rust forming under the rad support. When I originally restored the car, I used several steps to try and prevent rust. Everything was blasted and etched and I applied some epoxy primer and then some rustoleum primer and then several coats of black enamel. The core support was blasted, and sprayed with por 15 and then painted black. There should be plenty of rust protection there, but there was some rust forming. Is there any way to either keep the water out, or seal it so the rust is less likely to form? I'm going to repaint the inner fenders with epoxy primer and urethane black paint this time for a little more durability. The core support ,I was thinking I would clean up and paint with some hammerite paint right on top of what I have now, probably using a foam brush. It seems to do a good job in the places I've used it so far.

anyone have any good luck keeping their core supports nice?

    thanks

    Bob

Even after all that paint and por15, there's still rust? Do you take a big bottle of salt water and spray it down every day??

Yeah i put a thin layer of grease on the botton of the inner fender and the seams once i put it back together. Works great and not noticeable.
