We lost a 72 Stage 1 convertible today. Drivetrain is going in my 70 Skylark convertible. I have seen rust, but this was unrepairable. RIP, V code Buick
I see what appears to be Sunburst Yellow paint in the photo but was that the original color? I'm just curious which car bit the dust? Was it one of the two original Sunburst yellow cars? One had a white top and the other had a Covert (tan) top.
Gary, she was originally Hunter Green, black top, black bench interior. I bought the car off Facebook around a year ago five miles from my house. The guy said it was a 350 car but the VIN said otherwise. I saw the WS by the dipstick and kinda figured out what it was. It was a bench seat tach/gauges, ac, power window car. Story goes the guy did the car with his had years ago but dad passed. He kept up the insurance and registration. The car sat outside under pine trees for years. It rotted everywhere. But I drove it on the trailer. I was going to do it but after buying two parts cars, I couldn't find a good cowl to save my life. Did wind up with a good 3.54 posi out of a 350-2v Suncoupe that was factory code 75 red. But it all I ended up with was rusty fenders and bent hoods. The 70 is going to be sweet though, just not a numbers car. I have my Chevelle, GTO, and GTX for that. I just want a convertible that gets 5 mpg on the way to Key West a few times a year. With my Lover Girl next to me.
I would try to see if someone would want this car before I would scrap it. I've seen worst cars restored
Pictures do no justice. I was taking the pot metal hold down off for the top and the entire windshield top fell off. No floors, no trunk, no top well, no firewall, no inner firewall, all the lower dash is swiss cheese, quarters are solid bondo, drop offs in trunk are powder. I am keeping the fenders for wall hangers because of the emblems. Funny thing is is that I bought it with a flat hood but had a Dixco tach on it that worked. In the trunk was a really clean cut out of the scoops. Guy said they were going to graft it in but decided it was too much work 15 years ago. That cutout is swiss cheese. Gives you an idea how rusty the car started out as then.
i would have tried to save it if it was a 1 of 1, maybe use the 70 skylark as a parts car. but that's just me. im not a 72 guy or a convert guy
Twenty years ago I bought a 73 Roadrunner that was revinned and it got called for an inspection by the DMV. It was the single biggest pain in the ass I ever went through with a car. I could never so that to anyone, including myself. I wound up losing the car to the state.
