    Hi,

Next year, in february, I'm going to Washington D.C. for my work  .
I would like to take advantage of the opportunity to check out some salvage yards for parts for my '61 LeSabre.
Does anybody know any good places to go in that area :Do No: ?
    Thanks,

    Dennis.

I live in Dc area. Most slavage yards are gone, and the remaining certainly don't deal with older cars. Best bet is to look in southern VA, about hour or 2 south of DC

There's one place near Culpepper called Leon's. About two hours south on RT 29. It's famous around here as it is the only one with old cars. He keeps a list by the front door of all his current cars. You can also call him and he'll tell you if he has any 61 Buicks, etc. I'll try to find his number. February is a good time to go as the poison ivy is down and the bees are frozen!

What's the weather like in the D.C. area that time of year? Last year I was in San Francisco around March, and it was about 30 degrees Celcius. I could get used to such kind of weather in that time of year :bglasses: ! I guess D.C. is a bit colder, right?

If there aren't very much salvage yards in the D.C. area, I can order stuff from online stores like classicbuicks or kanter, have it sent to my hotel and then take it back on the plane. In this way, I can still save an extra couple of bucks  !

    Thanks,

    Dennis.

    Hi Dennis,

I live in the DC area. You're welcome to look me up when you get here. I may head out to Leon's in the next couple of weeks. If so, I'll keep an eye out for any 61 LeSabre parts.

    Bill,

    Are you talking about:

    Leon's Salvage & Junkyard
    6207 James Monroe Highway
    Culpeper, VA 22701

That would be the place! Shuuusssss, don't tell anyone! Actually most cars are pretty lame, being in the Virginia humidity and such. However, there are a few nuggets left, but they are hard to find, usually a just part here and there. And when's the last time you were locked in a salvage yard?

    When are you going?

Oh it's been about 10 yrs or so. I'm from southern VA and the junk yards back home are different from up here. Seems like you're going to steal everything from underneath their noses that they don't let you in the yard to mosey around.

I'll probably go this wknd for sure. Hows about you?

I got family stuff this weekend. I think he's only open like 1/2 day on Sat, so you gotta be quick. Don't want to be left in with the DOGS!!!!! LOL!

Let me know next time you go...maybe during the week???

dennis, there is also elwoods in hagerstown MD. its about what 65 miles ? west of DC, a few miles off of I-70. not many old cars left around here, but he might have something.

guys, isnt there a yard over in P.G. county somewhere ? i've heard of one but never went there. also down there across from calvert cliffs nuclear plant, but i dont know if they are still there or in business. they had old stuff. lots of rust in this area.

temps can be 5 or 55 F. in this area in feburary, mostly 20's - 40's but no snakes or bees in feb.

Henry - Are you thinking of Brandywine's? I know they have some old stuff, but never really thought to check on Buicks!

Hagerstown has Elwood Grims salvage yard. I was there years ago. At the time there was a lot of old gold. A few guys tell me there is still some left. It's about 30 or so miles from me. Pickins be gettin slim round here. Since scrap steel is up everything is getting crushed with no mind to what it is.

    another place

sorry for the slow reply. no bill, there is ( or at least was ) a place with 40's - 70's cars pretty much across the road from the calvert cliffs nuclear plant. what is that rte 4 ? its on the right if you are south bound. no newer cars, all old stuff. i think its just south of the main gate. a bunch of real old cars in the woods. i bet its still there, but sitting in the woods ya know theres going to be lots of rust. the other place in PG county seems to be a well kept secret, i dont know where it is.

there is also a small yard in williamsport MD that had some old stuff, i cant remember the name, i dont know what they would have now though. and a very small yard ( caves autopart ) on rt 11 in falling water WV, mostly late model junk, but decent prices.
