    Seat cover interchangeability

I was wondering if anyone knew about the possibility of installing 65 chevelle seat covers in my 65 Skylark convertible. They are about half the price of the Buick seat covers. I don't mind the different pattern, actually I kinda like it. Why, I wonder why they are they so cheap? The 64 Chevy covers are the same price range as the Buick covers.

Anyway, any help or advice is appreciated.
    Thanks, Paul

Are you looking for Bench seat interior or bucket? If you need Bench in Black I have a brand new legendary set for the front at almost half of new.....The reason Chevelle stuff is simple but still not right but its because they sell alot more Chevelle stuff than Buick...Bruce.

    Paul asks,
Why are the 65 chevelle seat covers so cheap and why are the 64 chevy covers the same price as the buick covers?

The reason why the 65 chevelle seat covers are cheap compared to the 65 Skylark covers is it takes about twice as long to make a set. The buick inserts are sewn so they have the stitches hidden, while the chevelle seats have straight sew lines. This gives the 65 Buick interiors a more refined /rich look.

For the Buicks, this means a line is sewn down, then the vinyl is folded over that line, and a line is sewn over the first one, then the next pleat line is sewn, and this continues until the insert is done. Then you get to do this to the other inserts, plus you need to make sure the widths of all the pleats match. Then once the seats are done you get to install the buttons.

To answer your other question "Why are the 64 chevy covers the same price as the 65 buick covers?"

The 65-72 GM seats use Madrid Grain, which is more commonly available, and is less costly compared to the Seville Grain that was used for the 61-64 seats. So here you are fighting the more expensive material vs the added labor costs.

You asked, so I gave you the answer. If you want to install 65 chevelle seat covers on your 65 Skylark, they should fit, but it will not look as nice, plus it will not be correct for the car.
