I've decided on a color, I saw at GS Nats, a Boatail Riv.....real nice.. it was a satin black. I think he's also a member here. i need to know what color that is? is it just a filler primer with black tint to it? I've never painted a car before, I have the equip, and want to try, and figured how can I F*@** up satin black  Or does anyone know of anyone here in east tennessee that paints? I moved here from Florida 1 year ago, and I know no one, really! i got so bored the 1st 8 months i started this buick project, now its paint time! thanks :beer :beer :beer
I did a Harley in satin black not long ago, Dupont has a base/clear mix for satin black, if thats your thang then thats the way to go, you can do about anything to it and its shean won't change on ya.
thats the car...... Thanks, is it called satin black? i just read an articlie in latest carcraft mag...they did a 69 camaro with a different method........it was a filler primer...and on 3rd coat they mixed in 20-25% black tone. it does not really look like that riv. Thanks for advice.....trying to get this done ,so i can take it to detroit for woodward dream cruise. :TU:
Yea, just "satin black base/clear" if you have a Dupont jobber near you just go there and ask them about it.
You can also do it in a single stage urethane which would be easier and cheaper than using a base/clear. If I was doing it I would use R-M Uno SC804 if you are after a matte black, and if you want just a slight gloss you can add Uno SC403 which is a full gloss black.
Sikkens makes a satin black called rally black it is a single stage urethane and it is really tough.Takes alot of abuse. Tim
If you weren't going for a permanent paint job,you should check out john deere blitz black. It is very tough and has "teflon"properties.go to www.volksrods.com and go to the too lazy to search function. Its also only about $40 a gallon so that helps.
