On History Channel yesterday, saw evolution of the dragster. Had some current interviews and vintage footage. Four nailheads....drool
In a RIV? Hey Chris, I saw that show. It looked like that four engined, four wheel drive tire smoker had a Riviera nose on it. Or was that wishfull thinking?
I shot some 8MM movies of Ivo's 4 engined car at Central Michigan dragway back in the mid 60s. I also have his twin engine car. All the BIG names ran there because the promoter was the first guy around to pay appearance money. i have Garlits, Malone, Kalitta, the speed sport roadster and EJ Potter on his Chev powered motorcycle. :beer
That's extremely cool, Joe! A while back I was watching an old Saturday Afternoon Surfer movie where they also did drag racing. There was a few seconds of the above car doing a cool burnout and making a pass. It looked awesome. Did you ever think about converting the 8MM to VHS and selling a few? I believe that this can be done.
What really is something is how involved Tommy Ivo was with Buick Nailheads. Not only did he run his 4 engined Buick "Showboat",but he also campaigned a 2 Buick engined coupe with the engines mounted side by side. Maybe we could get him to one of our meets? You think he would go for it?I think it would be pretty cool.
The Showboat and T. Ivo's (single engine) T-Bucket were at the NHRA museum in Pomona, CA when I visited in Jan. AWESOME! The Showbaoat has a riviera front end now. too cool
